Project Background
For a large-scale energy storage and transportation project, it was necessary to achieve efficient and safe transmission of liquefied natural gas (LNG) at ultra-low temperatures of -196°C. The pipeline system required excellent thermal insulation, pressure resistance, and long-term operational stability. Jiangsu Hongyuan Pipe Industry Co., Ltd. custom-developed stainless steel vacuum insulated pipes to successfully meet the complex working conditions.
Technical Solution
Structural Design:
The design employs a dual-layer austenitic stainless steel pipe with multi-layer aluminum foil composite insulation material filled in the interlayer, which is then evacuated to high vacuum levels. This effectively blocks heat conduction and convection. Pipe sections are connected via plug-in vacuum flanges, achieving zero leakage sealing.
Performance Parameters:
Operating Temperature: -196°C to +50°C
Design Pressure: 4.0 MPa
Heat Leak Rate: ≤1.5 W/m (measured value 0.8 W/m)
Application Outcomes
Energy Saving and Consumption Reduction:
Compared to traditional cold-insulated pipelines, the system reduces cold loss by 60%, saving over RMB one million annually in energy costs.
Safety Improvement:
During operation, there is no frost formation on the pipe walls, eliminating the risk of low-temperature frostbite.
Maintenance Convenience:
Modular design supports rapid replacement, reducing downtime for maintenance by 70%.
Industry Expansion
This technology has been extended to applications such as liquid hydrogen (-253°C) storage and transportation, and low-temperature sample transmission in biomedicine. Customers served include those in petrochemicals, new energy, and research institutions. Leveraging over 20 years of experience in cryogenic equipment, Jiangsu Hongyuan continues to advance the domestic production process of vacuum insulated pipelines, contributing to the national clean energy strategy.
